Composer/bassist JOHN LINDBERG has been an integral part of the international creative music community for over three decades. CAROLE KIM is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on live video performance and performance-based video installation. She has exhibited and performed widely in the US and abroad. Recent venues include the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art-Los Angeles, REDCAT/Disney Hall, the Getty Center, Springwave Festival/LIG Performing Arts Hall (Seoul, Korea), Decibel Festival/Seattle, Trampoline: Platform for New Media Art (Nottingham, England), the Stanford Jazz Festival, Issue Project Room and Engine 27 (New York), Arizona State University-West Interdisciplinary Arts & Performance Program (Phoenix, AZ), the Knitting Factory (LA), ArtSonje Center (Seoul, Korea) plus numerous festivals and performance series.

JazzHopRevolution is the cross-genre marriage of jazz and hip-hop ensemble co-created by JOHN LINDBERG with lyricist/vocalist/actor RAHMAN JAMAAL.
 Their first album—a two disc set including a DVD featuring both a short documentary and a music video--,The Sound of Truth (Planet Arts/ LindyEditions, 2007), stirred up many critical demographics upon its release.  They are currently in production on their second album.
 
RAHMAN JAMAAL first broke into the public eye as a result of his starring role in the Brandon Sonnier film, The Beat, which also featured Rahman's lyrics and music. He is a vital force on the underground hip-hop scene and serves as an educator and organizer through his role with Hip Hop Congress.
 
Keyboardist JOSHUA CHARNEY is being featured as a special guest on this performance of JazzHopRevolution. Josh is an active figure in the jazz and new music scene in LA and beyond, and brings a fresh new perspective to the ensemble.  Links:

OGURI, a resident of Southern California since 1990, conducts Body Weather Laboratory a forum for investigating the body and dance (founded by Min Tanaka in Japan, 1978).  He has taught and performed worldwide.  He is an artist-in-residence at the Electric Lodge in Venice, California.  Oguri has received support from the California Arts Council, the New England Foundation for the Arts National Dance Project, the Rockefeller Foundation, the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, The Durfee Foundation, The Lila Wallace Reader's Digest Arts Partners Program, The Getty Center, Irvine Fellowships in Dance 2000, and the Dance: Creation to Performance grant 2005 for “Caddy! Caddy! Caddy!” William Faulkner Dance Project.  “Caddy! Caddy! Caddy!” have been selected for funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Percussionist-composer ALEX CLINE has been a mainstay on the jazz and new music scenes of Los Angeles for over thirty-five years, his endeavors having established for him a career international in scope.  Combining colorful and sensitive percussion sounds with a drumming foundation based in the jazz tradition, Cline is recognized for his contributions to the music of such artists as Vinny Golia, Julius Hemphill, Bobby Bradford, Tim Berne, Richard Grossman, John Carter, Don Preston, Horace Tapscott, Gregg Bendian, Joseph Jarman, Wadada Leo Smith, Charlie Haden, and countless others, having toured extensively in North America and Europe and having appeared on almost a hundred recordings.  His work as a composer and bandleader has been documented on four recordings with his group, the Alex Cline Ensemble: The Lamp and The Star (ECM), Montsalvat (Nine Winds), Sparks Fly Upward, and The Constant Flame (both on Cryptogramophone), all receiving considerable critical acclaim.  His newest CD, Continuation, will be released in early 2009 on Cryptogramophone.  Alex has spearheaded some notable improvisational group collaborations as well, such as the trio Cline-Gauthier-Stinson and the quartet Cloud Plate (with Kaoru, Miya Masaoka, and G.E. Stinson), both of which have released CDs.  He has also been heard on numerous film soundtracks and in collaboration with many dancers and visual artists.  Alex's current musical associations include those with the Arthur Blythe Quintet, the Jeff Gauthier Goatette, Steuart Liebig's Seconda Prattica, the Tom McNalley Trio, George McMullen, Philip Gelb, and Open Gate Theatre.

DAN CLUCAS is a trumpet player and composer living and working in Los Angeles. Born in Anaheim, California in 1966, he began playing trumpet at age ten, soon thereafter discovering the music of Dizzy Gillespie, which in turn led to a lifelong study of and respect for the African American music known as jazz. While he strives for individual statement in his music, Clucas also strives to acknowledge the imprint of past masters, from Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington to Ornette Coleman and Sun Ra. He has studied with Bobby Bradford and Wadada Leo Smith, and has performed and recorded over the last two decades with such L.A. luminaries as Nels Cline, Alex Cline, Steuart Liebig, Vinny Golia, Joe Baiza, Rich West, and Michael Vlatkovich, to name a few.

Baritone saxophonist PABLO CALOGERO became well known as a prominent presence in the Latin bands of Machito, Tito Puente, Arturo O'Farrill and as a unique and singular voice on the instrument in the jazz and improvised music worlds. He has worked with John since they were both teenagers, and is featured prominently on John's album, Trilogy of Works for Eleven Instrumentalists (Black Saint, 1984).
