Please find below info on PhD scholarships at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. Applications in the fields of e.g. network and digital culture, new media studies, media archaeology, etc. are warmly accepted.

Anglia Ruskin hosts e.g. the Anglia Research Centre in Digital Culture (ArcDigital): http://www.anglia.ac.uk/arcdigital . Among other topics, ArcDigital hosts a project on network politics (funded by the AHRC).

In the recent Research Assessment Exercise the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences achieved outstanding success, with
four subject areas rated as having ‘world leading’ research, five subjects as having ‘international’ level research and History
and English being rated among the best in the country. As a result we are pleased to be able to offer a number of full and
fees-only studentships in the following areas:


Communication, Film and Media 1 full studentship, 2 fees-only studentships.

Any area including: Digital and Network Culture, Media Archaeology, Technoculture, Violence and Contemporary Cinema,
Continental Philosophy, Horror film, Spectatorship.

Art and Design 3 full studentships.
In the following areas: Curatorship, Contemporary Digital Photography, Fine Art, Installation, Film and Video, Performance,
Fashion, Typography, Letterpress Printing, Graphic Design.

Humanites and Social Sciences, 3 fees-only studentships, in the following areas: Transnational Crime, Irish Diaspora, Race,
Forensics and Policing, Surveillance, Privacy and Security in a digital age.

Music 1 full studentship, 3 fees-only studentships.
Any area including:
Composition, Digital Music Composition, Film Music Composition, Musicology, Music Therapy.

English 3 full studentships, 2 fees-only studentships.

Any area of English Language, Literature or Creative Writing including: Renaissance Drama, Romantic poetry, Nineteenthcentury
literature, Classical reception, Science Fiction, Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Modernism.

European Studies
Including Law, 1 fees-only studentship, in one of the following areas:
International Governance, Business Law or Land and Environmental Regulation.

Languages and Intercultural Communication, 2 fees-only studentships, in the following areas:
Migration in contemporary European cinema, literature and/or television and Sociolinguistics, identity and minorities.

Research Studentship Opportunities
Notes:
• The start date is September 2009 or February 2010.
• Full studentships are £13,290 stipend plus fees paid (UK & EU). Overseas applicants are welcome to apply but are required to pay the difference between the Home/EU fees
and the overseas rate.
• Successful full studentship applicants will be expected to undertake up to six hours teaching or other departmental support each week during term time.
• Applicants should hold a Masters degree awarded by a UK university, or an overseas Masters of equivalent standard, provided that the Masters degree is in an appropriate
cognate area and that the Masters degree includes training in research and the execution of a research project. Applicants who hold a first or upper second class degree may
also be considered.
• Students for whom English is not their first language must meet our required minimum level of English language proficiency (IELTS 6.5 in all skills, or equivalent).
