Class Descriptions

Post Merce Neoformalism Dance Training

Foofwas classes are informed by his professional training in Ballet (in the Stuttgart Ballet from 87 to 90) and the Cunningham technique (with MCDC from 91 to 98). His interest in post-modern approaches to the body and his own physical investigations after 12 years of choreography makes the training a gentle and fun awareness of the body possibilities in complex movements.

Body States: New Explorations in Movement w/ Foofwa & Alan Sondheim

Lately, Foofwa explored chaos in multiple ways. First, in playing with (un)balance, he was able to create disorder and indeterminacy in very formal dance phrases. Second, he was inspired by uncontrolled dancelike movements caused by muscle contractions that occur as symptoms of several different disorders called Chorea. And third, he made improvisations duplicating some of Alan Sondheims avatar moves-these avatars follow chaotic and humanly impossible movement patterns. These three examples will guide us to explore how very formal dances can become chaotic and excitingly so!
