The orangerie, a type of building which grew oranges on estates such as the Palace of the Louvre and Versailles, before the Paris Commune, serves as an inspiration for this work. This temporary restaurant and installation offers a historical glimpse into the exhibition of exotics and the relationship that has to agriculture, food distribution, and the contemporary exhibition space.
On Tuesday July 13th, the temporary free restaurant opens, serving foods including citrus and exploring the flavors of salty, bitter, numbing, sour and sweet.
The artist has collaborated with chefs, and each day the fruits of those collaborations will be served from 2:30-5:00pm. Seating in the restaurant is made from surplus materials such as citrus bags and crates related to the citrus industry. Discussions about the culture of food, agriculture, and the emancipating potential of exhibition space will take place at various times in the gallery throughout the week.
