without benefit of context.

You mention a "cognitive dissonance" experienced by the vast majority of former
art students who must enter the commercial work force because they are unable to
succeed at becoming professional artists (or art teachers).  Forced to hire out
as creative talent, these would-be artists suffer from feelings of superiority
or oppression in the business environment for want of a "professional ethic".

(my apologies in advance for taking your comments out of context and possibly
mis-characterizing them.)

Could you please elaborate?  What is this "professional ethic" and how does it
eliminate the "cognitive dissonance" an artist might experience working for
wages in the current economic system?
