[Nettime-bold] trapped spectacle

history and its victims kept their hands to the plow, broken, exhausted,
like an old married couple trapped for life in love's death lock, unable
to break through to that sunlit mutual upland. the future, under
construction, leveraged to the hilt, could only press forward, hooked on
its own possibility. hope not only persisted; it made a schoolgirl
spectacle of itself, skirt in the air, all shame on view.

what of any real consequence can we learn, even from the best of museums?

art is not capable of teaching. this is my point. it contains no formal

knowledge about the world. no predictions. nothing falsifiable. nothing

repeatable. it's not about anything except itself. other art. and even

about that, it's at best equivocal.

unchecked, your mind's maneuvers twist back on themselves in all
directions, a nest of a million twigs that knits its own fixed prison in
the static air...

all was ad hoc

the world took its instructions from the shapes of its smallest parts,
aggregate subroutines, reusable containers, object0oriented modules that
forward-chained into ever-larger autonomous agents, extending the program
even as it passed through its run-time interpreter...
