ANNOUNCEMENT:    Opening Reception  .  .  .  ARTIST'S TALKS
Beginning at 7:30 at the opening reception, each exhibiting Artist will
give a short gallery talk .

EXHIBITIONS:

Main Gallery:   CARL HOLZMAN, RECENT PAINTINGS
Holzman describes himself as a 'boomer cliche', coming of age in the
1960's, spending the 1970's pursuing graduate studies in the humanities,
veering into business school in the 1980's, climbing the corporate
ladder in the 1990's.  Her recently left his job to devote more time to
painting.  Although he describes his art training as 'informal' his work
in still life betrays a sophisticated use of form and light.


Gallery A:   SHERI WARSHAUER
Warshauer's paintings capture Chicago's contemporary middle class
culture, society, and experiences, recording the social mores of our
time and analyzing group dynamics and interactions.  Her work conveys
the bonds and relationships that exist between people by recording the
unconscious and self-conscious aspects of the moment.  Warshauer
received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in
1999.


Gallery B: JUDITH BROTMAN, INTERSECTIONS: AN INSTALLATION
Brotman has been working with mixed-media wall installations for the
past seven years.  She creates each wall as a two layered massing
composed primarily of new work, juxtaposing computer manipulated images
with drawings, paintings,  mixed media constructions, writings, photos,
and found images and objects.  She installs the work on site, allowing
the placement of each piece dictate the placement of the next.


Gallery C: APRIL KATZ, HER DAYS: PAGE BY PAGE
Katz's prints layer information, text and visuals, in order to imply
memory.  She mixes hand drawn and photographic imagery with handwritten
or computer generated text.  Her current work examines the role the
calendar plays in the life of an individual.  In this exhibition, Katz
integrates date book entries written by her mother with other images and
text using photo-polymer plates and an intaglio process.  Katz is an
Assistant Professor of Art at Iowa State University.


Gallery D: MAIREAD O'NEILL LAHER, SOUNDINGS
"Central to Laher's work is a search for this unity,  the creatoin of a
cohesive harmony through paint marrying materials, content and
imagination."  Patricia McKenna, Catalog Essay 2001.

Laher was born in Limerick, Ireland and lives and works in Dublin.  Her
colorful oil paintings create a feeling of a landscape and mood. Laher
studied at the Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design and has exhibited
her work throughout Ireland and the US.  She has recently completed a
residency fellowship at the Ragdale Foundation.
