Re: <nettime> New York Observer: The New New Strategy

Hiya,

...or should this be an old, old strategy? In 'Extraordinary Popular
Delusions', Charles McKay says that - at the the peak of the South Sea
Bubble in April 1720 - "an unknown adventurer" announced the launch "a
company for carrying on an undertaking of great advantage, but nobody to
know what it is." After successfully selling all the initial offering of
shares in just one day on the London exchange, McKay recounts that this
"man of genius... was philosopher enough to be contented with his venture,
and set off the same evening for the Continent. He was never heard of
again." (pages 55-6, Wordsworth edition).

Later,

Richard
