'gw' usually a name chosen by sysadm to mean 'gateway'. This might be a
gateway between a couple of connected networks, or even the internet
gateway of a network. users may appear to be coming 'from' these gateways
because they are using 'address translation' software to hide internal
addresses, for security reasons and also because often the internal
addresses used aren't globally reachable (ie. they use specially reserved
network addresses internally because the IP space is nearly fully utilised
and all workstations cannot be assigned their own unique IP address).
