<nettime> Balkan Wars in New York

NYPD is still looking for the guy that killed Montenegrin boxer from
Brooklyn, Kemal Kolenovic, in The Bronx. Kemal was killed by a black
SUV at around 4 am on New Years eve, trying to mediate a heated,
alcohol-fueled and apparently politically motivated argument. The car
was driven by Ahmet Gashi, whose sketch is here, released by the
police. I think media incorrectly identified Kemal at first as
Albanian from Montenegro - given his name, he is probably Muslim, but
Slavic. Ahmet, on the other hand, by name is an Albanian Muslim,
posibly from Montenegro (but he could be from Kosovo). As Kemal was
not an intended target, I believe it is too early to meditate on
Muslims killing Muslims. Ahmet might have been too drunk to tell a
friend from foe, and Kemal might be just standing in the wrong place
at the wrong time, who the hell asked him to be a peace-maker? What
this spectacular vehicular manaslaughter at the known Montenegrin
hangout in Da Bronx teaches us is that the war over Montenegrin
independence did not end with Montenegrin independence: it is
moved on, and it came over to the U.S. with its exiles...
