Subject: [APC Forum] Willetts' lecture on 'Who Really Created the
Internet'now online

Peter Willetts' lecture of a couple of weeks ago on the origins of the
internet is now available to view online.
Professor Willets makes a very well argued case that the modern public
internet is not a child of the US military, but rather the work of NGOs
and activists during the 80s, that later came together to form the APC.
He goes on to speak about the consequences of that history on the
internet that we all depend on today.
Well worth taking some time out to watch - especially as the work of
many on this list are referenced in the lecture. Reconnecting with our
organisational ancestry certainly gave those of us from GreenNet who
went to hear him, a rosy glow of pride :).
I recommend skipping the introductory guff and starting at 3'30'',
Anna
