Without being a true believer in NL as a welfare state, and being opposed
to current (and for the last 20 yrs, past) Dutch governments' policies in
matter of welfare, I am still surprised. But I suspect the statement about
NL's "social expenditures scoring in between those of Portugal and Greece"
to reflect more an accounting issue than the actual situation. Where other
states spend a lot in social welfare measures, like subsidies and
gratuities, the Dutch authorities have always preffered direct income
support, some or all of which, may not show up as 'social expenditures'
the way OECD tabulates them. But that's just a suggestion, I am no
specialist.

Cheerio, p+5D!
