Isn't politics as such - the entire spectrum - a distraction from coming to terms with those who hold the wealth and power? To keep the illusion of dynamics - of movement, democracy as it were - the balance shifts a little to this then to that side and when needed (to maintain the power base of the few) the screws are tightened a bit with a hard core rightist approach that takes decades for "the left" to undo - and then you have a few decades to let the do gooders play around and please their crowds. And so the story goes. Aren't we fools to engage with and "believe" that the circus of politics is anything other than just that, a circus?
