Re: <nettime> Please show some conscience


I believe that the misuse of these terms is tied to industry jargon. However it is not the computer science industry, but the financial sector. At least in here in New York many new tech start ups are funded by both private VC money and government money (both city and state allocated toward creating new jobs and stirring up interest 'in the scene' - the goal is to 'bring manufacturing back to New York'). Often this money is distributed by people who are are unfamiliar with the technologies - they're business-people not engineers, and so artificial intelligence/blockchain/etc act as buzz words that attract investment funds and create a buffer from needing those who approve funds fully understand your product.
