Welcome to join discussions on net.art and criticism on Friday March 21st starting 12 am Finnish time (London 10 am). Discussions take place on our web pages at www.grandarena.com. Sessions hosted by Håkan Nilsson, Tapio Mäkelä, Heath Bunting and Alexei Shulgin. criticism.art.net - a workshop on the ferry www.grandarena.com Artnode from Stockholm and artist association Muu from Helsinki have co-produced Grand Arena, your indispensable guide in the web of art and communication. This event introduces Smart Show on-line, and series of discussions on the role of art and criticism on the net. This first section covers all events of interest at Smart Show, an international art fair which embarks for the first time on the R&R ferry Silja Symphony between 20-23 of March. Vernissage in Helsinki, Finland the 20th, in Stockholm, Sweden the 21th. The second section is the Live Room - a live debate transmitted for one hour during the openings. The debate will be transmitted in video and audio, and can also be followed in text. Please feel free to send any question to the panel via e-mail. The third section is C.A.N (Criticism Art Net), introduces in-depth discussions on art and communication as well as the usual gossip. Five major subjects will be presented with an introductory essay. This forum will be open via www to anyone interested in sharing his or her opinion. The topics to be discussed are Chit-chat art: The role of dialogue between artists and critics in cyberspace. License to grill: Do the critics have a role in net.art Are there frauds in contemporary art? How do you detect a fraud when fake itself has become a medium. Changing Spaces - Changing Art The change from gallery space to net interface opens new possibilities to artists to work independently of the art institutions and their curatorial power structures. What kind of politics are we dealing with the new sites? Is net.art a new situationist movement in an imaginary city/cyberspace? What is net.art? Over the last days, nettime mailing list has hosted a discussion on what makes net work art. Perhaps the question itself is outdated? How do net.artist consider themselves in relation to the art world? Alexei Shulgin talks about net.art as a change from Representation to Communication, a movement from presenting objects & images towards actions, sites for communication. How to find us?
