<nettime> Glossary invite |
To Nettime list: Call for your submissions for a Nettime Glossary. Here's another chance to contribute to a vital section of the soon-to-be-named nettime book (AKA zkp5). WE WANT YOUR KEY WORDS. Here's your chance to update Raymond Williams. According to Webster's dictionary a glossary is *a collection of textual glosses or terms limited to a special area of knowledge or usage* But a Nettime glossary can also be *a drift of textual fragments and terms unlimited by any area of knowledge and endlessly useless* It's not so much about explaining, it's about unchaining and rechaining meanings and associations. WHAT FITS? Glossary items could include but are not limited to: projects, concepts, imploded cliches, jargon, events/festivals, groups, acronyms, lies, keyboard manouevres, misattributions, facts, terms, neologisms, redefinitions, undefinitions, antidefinitions etc. etc. LENGTH OF SUBMISSIONs: Maximum length is1000 characters per entry. LANGUAGE/s IN WHICH TO SUBMIT: Hybrid key terms that need to hijack the Anglophone juggernaut are very welcome. FOR NETTIME BOOK EDITORS: It would certainly be extremely useful if the section editors compiled a list of key terms and definitions to go with their areas of concern. HOW TO SUBMIT: send to: [email protected] NOTE: when sending your glossary entries to this account the _subject_ line *must* be the term the note is describing. Reflexive labyrinths (glossaries within the glossary) could be created by using glossary terms to describe new glossary terms. HOW TO GET IT: every couple of days, as soon as we have a couple of entries to the glossary we will send them back to the nettime list as a digest. WHAT NOW? Think of that word, phrase or name. Something you'd want to make sure you could explain to someone else or that you wish was a common phrase. Put it in a nutshell and send it in.
