Bill filed to ban sale of "exotic hair coloring" to minors

By Associated Press, 05/11/99

BOSTON -- Teenagers looking to make a statement with an unusual hair color
may want to call their state legislators.

A bill filed on Beacon Hill would outlaw the sale of "exotic hair
coloring" to minors. Businesses who sell dye kits to minors would be
subject to fines of $100 to $300.

State Rep. Thomas Kennedy of Brockton said he filed the bill on behalf of
a constituent whose daughter bought a kit and dyed her hair a
purple-orange color.

Kennedy told the Middlesex News that he's not trying to restrict youthful
expression, only prevent children from making bad choices in their
appearance.
