Re: [Nettime-nl] Bert, bin Laden, steganografie en zelfcensuur

Wired heeft een verhaal met de volgende zinsnede:

"An editor at Reuters' photo desk in Washington confirmed that the
maize-colored muppet did appear in the photograph. "It is in the original
image, though I couldn't say how it got there. It wasn't hacked," the editor
said."

En de Osama bin Laden puzzels lijken populair te worden deze Sinterklaas:

"A closer scrutiny of one of the photos reveals a second apparent faux pas
on the part of the radical Islamic protesters: Another clip art photo of bin
Laden used in the photograph seems to show him with a bottle of Jack
Daniels."

Ik kon dat laatste beeld overigens niet terugvinden.

Is dit genoeg? Nee, er valt nog veel meer te zien aan bin Laden, meldt The
Times:

"The videotape of Osama bin Laden calling upon Muslims to wage holy war
against America caused many in the military to sit up even before his
inflammatory words had been translated - for he was clearly wearing the
camouflage jacket of a standard US Battle Dress Uniform (BDU)."

The New York Post (aangehaald in hetzelfde artikel) heett ondertussen
ontdekt wat voor horloge hij draagt:

"Like many who are serious about their running, he also appeared to be
sporting an Ironman Triathlon watch, manufactured by the American company
Timex."
(...)
Bin Laden's watch was identified by the New York Post, which asked: "If
Osama bin Laden hates America so much, why the heck does he appear to be
wearing a watch made in the USA? The arrogant terror chief apparently isn't
so disgusted by our country that he refuses to parade around with one of its
best-known products."

Dat was weer genoeg beeldcultuur voor vandaag geloof ik.
