Maart: Zwijger Killer maand

Waag Society, het medialab bovenin de Waag in Amsterdam heeft  
uitgebreid naar pakhuis de Zwijger, het hyperhippe mediapakhuis aan de  
Piet Heinkade. Hoewel KillerTV nog vast verbonden is aan het Theatrum  
Anatomicum in de Waag, vinden de maart-uitzendingen in de Zwijger  
plaats, respectievelijk de 14de op de 5de verdieping in de Waag  
Society lounge en de 21ste in de grote zaal.

Cyberspace Salvations deel 2 van start:
Cyberpunk-legende Bruce Sterling te gast in KillerTV

In maart gaat Science Fiction / Science Faction, het tweede deel van  
de Cyberspace Salvations-reeks, van start met een avond in Pakhuis de  
Zwijger rond cyberpunk-legende Bruce Sterling. De avond vormt het  
begin van een over drie avonden verdeeld symposium over de wederzijdse  
beïnvloeding van science fiction en computertechnologie, georganiseerd  
door XS4all en het nu al legendarische Cyberspace Salvations  
onderzoeksteam van de Universiteit van Leiden en Waag Society?s  
KillerTV.
De digitale vlucht naar voren in de jaren ?80 inspireerde schrijvers  
tot een heel nieuw science fiction-genre: cyberpunk, met als  
belangrijkste exponenten Bruce Sterling, Rudy Rucker en William  
Gibson. De laatstgenoemde baande met de roman Neuromancer (Nederlandse  
titel: ?Zenumagiër), geheel in cyberspace gesitueerd, de weg voor  
internet-werelden als Second Life en spellen als Worlds of Warcraft.  
Er is sprake van een wederzijdse beïnvloeding: wetenschap en industrie  
laten zich inspireren door de kunst en andersom.
In Science Fiction / Science Faction gaan cyberpunkschrijvers en  
-onderzoekers in discussie met het publiek en filosoferen over deze  
ontwikkeling en hoe het monsterverbond tussen ?science? en ?fiction?  
in de ?nabije- toekomst gaat uitwerken.

Het  Science Fiction / Science Faction symposium zal dus beginnen op  
21 maart  met Bruce Sterling die in gesprek gaat met prof.dr. Peter  
Pels van het Cyberspace Salvations-team onder leiding van moderator  
Sally Wyatt van de European Association for the study of Science and  
technology.
De serie wordt op 11 april vervolgd met science fiction auteur Rudy  
Rucker en R.U. Sirius van cyberculture magazine Mondo 2000 en op 2 mei  
met gamedesigner en onderzoeker Brenda Laurel en auteur en  
ontwikkelaar Bruce Damer die het baanbrekende Avatars, Exploring and  
Building Virtual Worlds on the Internet op zijn naam heeft staan.

KillerTV maart-programma:

14 maart: avond met John Hopkins, netvorser en kunstenaar. Werd samen  
opgeleid met filmkunstenaar Stan Brakhage en is een van de  
vooraanstaande Keyworx (Waag Society?s ontwikkel-software) gebruikers  
in de wereld.
Ook wordt er deze avond in de Zwijger gekookt door Woest (Pepi  
Mensink) en is er een bijzondere aflevering van ?de Zwijger spreekt?,  
een random personality event onder redactie van Waag Society?s  
personalities Janine Huizenga en Sher Doruff. Ze ontvangen choreograaf  
André Gingras die onlangs een project in het Korzo theater in Den Haag  
presenteerde. Hij combineerde er dans en video met teksten van William  
Burroughs, Galileo Galilei en het American Science Magazine.
Bovendien presenteren  ookoi en raudio.nl: leve ookoi test.
Puur geluid, Iets tussen toen en dan.
Deze bijzondere Killeravond kunt u thuis volgen achter uw schermpje  
maar ook bijwonen in de intieme Waag Society-lounge op de 5de  
verdieping van Pakhuis de Zwijger.

21 maart : de grote zaal van de Zwijger biedt gastvrijheid aan het  
Cyberspace Salvations team dat professor Peter Pels in gesprek laat  
gaan met Bruce Sterling onder leiding van Sally Wyatt. ?zie introductie-

March: Zwijger Killer month

Waag Society, the medialab in the Waag building in Amsterdam, has  
expanded to De Zwijger, a multimedia warehouse in the Amsterdam  
harbour district.
KillerTV usually streams from the Theatrum Anatomicum in the Waag  
building but is in March entirely programmed at de Zwijger. The 14th  
there?s a program from the intimate Waag Society lounge on the 5th  
floor of de Zwijger, at the 21st we will broadcast from the big venue  
on the first floor.

Cyberspace Salvations part 2 begins:
Cyberpunk-legend Bruce Sterling in KillerTV

In March the Science Fiction / Science faction series, the second part  
of the Cyberspace Salvations symposiums, starts with an evening in  
Pakhuis de Zwijger focusing on cyberpunk legend Bruce Sterling. It?s  
the beginning of a series of three discussions in March, April and May  
about the mutual influence of science fiction and computer technology,  
organized by XS4all and the already legendary Cyberspace Salvations  
research team of the University of Leiden and Waag Society?s KillerTV,.

The digital revolution in the eighties of the last century inspired to  
a completely new science fiction genre: cyberpunk. Important authors  
were Rudy Rucker, Bruce Sterling and off course William Gibson, whose  
novel Neuromancer, situated in cyberspace, paved the way for online  
virtual worlds like Second Life and games like Worlds of Warcraft.
Still science, industry and culture are influencing each other. In  
Science Fiction / Science Faction, cyberpunk authors and researchers  
discuss these issues with the audience and how the alliance between  
Science and Fiction will determinate our digital future.

On the 21st of March Bruce Sterling will be talking to professor Peter  
Pels of the Cyberspace Salvations research team, moderated by Sally  
Wyatt of the European Association for the Study of Science and  
Technology.
The 11th of April is reserved for Rudy Rucker and R.U. Sirius of  
cyberculture magazine Mondo 2000.
The 2nd of May gamedesigner and -researcher Brenda Laurel will talk to  
author and developer Bruce Damer who wrote the groundbreaking Avatars,  
Exploring and Building Virtual Worlds on the Internet.

The KillerTV March schedule:

14 March: main guest is John Hopkins, net researcher and artist. Was  
educated together with film artist Stan Brakhage and is a user of Waag  
Society?s developing software Keyworx.
But there?s more: Proustian cooking by ?Woest? (chef Pepi Mensink) and  
an episode of ?de Zwijger spreekt? (the silent speak), a random  
personality show edited by Waag Society personalities Sher Doruff and  
Janine Huizenga. Choreographer André Gingras will be their guest. He  
recently did a project in the Korzo Theatre in The Hague where he  
combined dance and video with texts by William Burroughs, Galileo  
Galilei and the American Science Magazine.
And there will be ookoi and raudio.nl: hurray from ookoi test.
Pure sound, Somewhere between when and then..
This remarkable evening can be enjoyed in the privacy of your home on  
a computer screen but it is better to come to the Zwijger to  
experience the taste of KillerTV.
