PAVILION UNICREDIT /for English please scroll down MELANCHOLY IS NOT ENOUGH... 15 decembrie 2011 â 19 februarie 2012 PAVILION UNICREDIT, Bd. Nicolae Titulescu nr.1 (Piata Victoriei) Deschidere: Joi, 15 decembrie 2011, 19.00 Curator: Niels Van Tomme Participanti: Lotte Van den Audenaeren (BE), Anne-James Chaton (FR), Andrea Galvani (IT), Jo Mitchell (UK), Matthias Wermke & Mischa Leinkauf (DE) âPublicatie: âMelancholy is not enoughââ poster cu text de Niels Van Tomme. In prezent este Director of Arts and Media la Provisions Learning Project. A curatoriat numeroase expozitii si a co-organziat proiecte de arta publica precum "The State of Things?" la MCA (Denver). In calitate de colaborator al diverse reviste si jurnale, precum Art Papers, Afterimage, EXTRA si hART, el invetigheaza aspectele socio-politice ale culturii contemporane. Expozitie sustinuta de PAVILION - journal for politics and culture. Imagine: Andrea Galvani  2009/2010, Higgs Ocean #6, C-print mounted on aluminum dibond 75 x 116 cm. Nicolae Titulescu nr.1 (Piata Victoriei) Opening: Thursday, December 15, 2011, 19.00 Curator: Niels Van Tomme Participants: Lotte Van den Audenaeren (BE), Anne-James Chaton (FR), Andrea Galvani (IT), Jo Mitchell (UK), Matthias Wermke & Mischa Leinkauf (DE) Publication: "Melancholy is not enoughâ" poster with text by Niels Van Tomme âA sorrowful pleasure,â according to Bulgarian-French theorist Julia Kristeva, melancholy is assumed to exclude any action. Besieged by one's grievous state, one can't react with or against this all-pervasive affective condition. Turning away from deliberately finding pleasure in overpowering sentiments and environments, as the melancholic subject is expected to in most conceptualizations of her state, the artists in this exhibition subvert the looming of melancholia into delight, relentlessly relating the physical places they navigate to the mental states they desire to appropriate. (Niels Van Tomme) Niels Van Tomme is a Belgian-borned curator, researcher, and art critic based in New York City and Washington, DC who serves as the Director of Arts and Media at Provisions Learning Project. He has curated numerous exhibitions, and co-organized public art projects such as The State of Things at the MCA (Denver). As a contributor to various journals and magazines including Art Papers, Afterimage, EXTRA, and hART, he investigates the sociopolitical aspects of contemporary culture.
