Galeria *Victoria** Art Center* în parteneriat cu *Universitatea Naţională
de Arte Bucureşti* vă invită *joi, 4 aprilie, 2013, ora 19:00 *la
deschiderea expoziţiei* Oraşul văzut de generaţia '80.*

Momentul va fi marcat printr-un performance al artistului *Ütő Gusztáv*,
intitulat *Global-local 2*. Pe durata expoziţiei vor fi organizate o *Seară
Mircea Florian*, o *Masă rotundă: Oraşele vizibile/ Oraşele invizibile* şi
o *Seară de poezie optzecistă* pe tema condiţiei citadine.

Condiţia citadină se constituie într-un esenţial reper tematic pentru
artiştii şi scriitorii generaţiei '80, de la începuturi şi până în prezent.

Dimensiunea existenţială, cea social-politică, explorările identitare din
perspectivă individuală sau ţintind categorii umane diverse, sunt constante
în opera optzeciştilor care s-au lansat în contextul Atelierului 35.

Contrastele şi dinamica lumii post-totalitare, ofensiva agresivă a
consumerismului, integrarea în sistemele ce ţin de fenomenul globalizării,
avantajele şi primejdiile acestuia, inclusiv o nouă "vârstă" a alienării,
se regăsesc în arta din ultimele două decenii, a exponenţilor generaţiei
'80. Nu lipsesc nici semnele unei sinteze definibile prin conceptul de
"glocalism". Unele demersuri ţin seama de faptul că oraşul contemporan este
un *meeting point* al* high* şi *media (consumer) culture*. Tipologia
structurală a fragmentului trimite, ca şi trăsătura anterior menţionată, la
universul postmodernităţii.

Artiştii cu care se "clădeşte" expoziţia de la Victoria Art Center
dezvăluie cu luciditate nemiloasă realităţi urbane şi social-politice
incomode, dar sunt sensibili şi la misterele, poezia şi chiar pitorescul
oraşului.

Prezentul "desant" al optzeciştilor operează cu limbaje artistice subliniat
consonante cu axul tematic al condiţiei citadine şi care au contribuit din
plin la dinamica generaţiei respective la începuturile sale, dar şi pe
parcurs: fotografie, video, *computer based art*, instalaţie, obiect, *
performance*. Artiştii pentru care am optat acum (variantele de selecţie
fiind mai multe) au fost invitaţi să participe cu lucrări mai recente, iar
unele sunt realizate pentru această expoziţie.

*Oraşul văzut de generaţia '80* este cea mai amplă expoziţie din ultimii
douăzeci de ani alcătuită numai cu exponenţi ai acesteia, după ce şi-au
încheiat evoluţia în Atelier 35. Protagoniştii expoziţiei trăiesc şi
lucrează în Bucureşti, Oradea, Cluj, Timişoara, Sibiu, Sfântu Gheorghe,
centre majore pe harta artei tinere de acum  trei decenii, unii (şi) peste
hotare, la Amsterdam sau Düsseldorf. Este o expoziţie a unor
individualităţi marcante, care poartă cu sine repere ale apartenenţei la
aceeaşi generaţie culturală. (Adrian Guţă)

*The City Seen by the 80s Generation*

*Victoria Art Center* gallery in collaboration with *Bucharest National
University of Arts* is proud to invite you at the opening of *The City Seen
by the 80s Generation* exhibition, *Thursday, 4th of April, 7 P.M.*

The opening will feature the *Global-local 2* performance by the artist *Ütő
Gusztáv*. During the period of the exhibition there will also be a *Mircea
Florian Night*, the discussion panel *Visible Cities/ Invisible Cities* and
an *Eighties Poetry Night* focusing on the theme of the urban condition.

The urban condition is an essential and recurrent theme for the writers and
artists of the 80s, from start to finish.

The existential dimension, the social-political one, the search for ones
identity from an individual perspective or the exploration of the various
human categories, are a constant feature in the work of the artists from
the 80s generation that had made their debut in the context of Atelier 35.

The contrasts and the dynamics of the post-totalitarian world, the
aggressive offensive of consumer culture, the integration within the
systems of the globalization phenomenon, the advantages and dangers of this
situation, including a new "age" of alienation, are to be found in the art
of this generation of artists in the last two decades. Concepts such as
"glocalism", that synthesizes these various conflicting issues, are ever
present in the art of the 80s generation. Some artistic projects focus on
the fact that the contemporary metropolis is a meeting point of high and
low media consumer culture. The structural typology of the fragment leads
us, as well as the features that were mentioned above, to the postmodern
world view.

The artists that "make up" the exhibition at Victoria Art Center reveal the
uneasy urban and social-political realities with a poignant lucidity, but
remain sensible to the mysteries, the poetry and the picturesque.

The current take from the artists of the 80s generation makes use of
artistic practices that are in perfect lineage with the thematic axis of
the urban condition, and the artists have fully contributed to the dynamics
of this generation from its beginnings, but also in its latter stages:
photography, video art, computer based art, installation, object,
performance. The artists included in this exhibition were invited to
present more recent works, some of them being designed especially for the
occasion.

*The City Seen by the 80s Generation* is the largest exhibition of its kind
in the last twenty years, compiled entirely by artists that were active in
the respective time frame, after they've ended their activity within
Atelier 35.  The artists present in the exhibition live and work in
Bucharest, Oradea, Timişoara, Sibiu, Sfântu Gheorghe, all active cultural
centers on the map of a generation of artists that developed their
practices three decades ago, while others live and work beyond the Romanian
borders, in Amsterdam or Düsseldorf. The exhibition puts together strong
individuals that bear within themselves the landmarks of the same cultural
