Kristiina Koskentola is in Tajikistan for a short residence and research to
explore the topics of nomadic subjectivity and local knowledge. Within our
globalized reality artists are not only traveling across geographies, but
they dwell different streams of knowledge, real and virtual, producing
singular routes, effects, and outcomes. Kristiina Koskentola will talk
about the dynamics of her artist practice, traversing continents and
cultures. She will elaborate on the importance and influence of lived
experiences, local knowledge, unexpected encounters, and different levels
of collaborations on her work and practice.
Furthermore she will reflect on the contemporary art scene in Beijing,
where she overwinters.Rather than giving an exhaustive survey trough the
current state of Contemporary Art in China, she will introduce briefly a
number of different venues, mainstream and experimental, and reflect on the
diverse modes of artistic labor, and life in the capitals' artist villages,
which could be characterized by being in constant stage of transition, and
change.
