Writer, Young People and the Media
we are looking for someone to draft an approx. 20 page paper on Young People
and the Media in the CEE/CIS and Baltics region and wonder if you have any
suggestions. The paper will be among the UNICEF documents presented at the
regional Intergovernmental and NGO Consultations that will take place this
Spring in preparation for the UN Special Session on Children. The paper should
bring together existing information and research on the following:
* young people's media consumption habits/trends since the fall of the Berlin
Wall (with comparisons to the communist period and Western Europe)
* their attitudes toward the mass media
* where they get their information from
* media and entertainment
* media preferences
* portrayal of young people in the mass media
* what programs/publications are directed at young people specifically
(quantity/quality)
* information "haves" and "have-nots"
* young people and the Internet (access, digital divide, cyber-porn,
trafficking, e-commerce, cyber-cafes, youth culture)
* survey of media projects involving young people
* state of journalism and communications training
* importance of young people to development of democratic, independent media in
region
* recommendations for policy and programs
Clearly, the writer would have to be knowlegable about the region as well as
media and youth issues more generally. Time is short, so I'd appreciate hearing
from you as soon as possible.
