Syndicate: The Big Game Hunters Summit. |
The Big Game Hunters Summit August 22 - 25 Gaming experts plan their next moves in Banff. Computer games experts from around the world will gather at The Banff Multimedia Institute for a meeting of the minds during two special events August 22 - 29. The events will attract visual artists, musicians, writers, designers, directors, multimedia producers, and media producers, along with leading players from the gaming world. The Big Game Hunters Summit August 22 - 25 is funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage and is a democratic think tank that will bring together artists, writers, senior games designers and leaders from the World Wide Web and television. The event springs from the successful Banff Summit at the Summit 97 last summer where participants agreed on a need to develop a dialogue about making games smarter, better and not just faster. This event explores gaming theory, hot new content and new methods of distribution. Some of the leading participants from the Big Games Hunter Summit will remain to discuss games theory, the development and production process, current and future distribution, and financing and collaboration models with participants. This is an event created for learners entering the gaming world. "New technologies and delivery environments such as the World Wide Web and DVD present us with an opportunity, to lower the costs, to combine various environments such as television programs, toys and on-line-games and to expand markets. These events are different than the large gaming conference. At Banff we provide the opportunity for peers to meet at The Summit and then for learners to work directly with some of the individuals who have built the context through the workshop," explains Sara Diamond, Executive Producer, Television and New Media/Artistic Director, Media and Visual Arts. Gamers and writers scheduled to come to Banff include: * Ian Verchere, Creative Director, Radical Entertainment, Director of the Sega game Beavis and Butt-head, Designer and Animator of Mario is Missing, and Designer and Director of The Divide * Celia Pearce, President and Creative Director, Momentum Media Group, Author of The Interactive Book and Creative Director, Interactive Entertainment * David Braben, President, Frontier Development * Eugene P.
