INVITATION (summary)

Presentation of CyberArt project

at 3 p.m. on 9 March 2000 (GMT +1)

Gemeentemuseum Den Haag

On Thursday 9 March, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag presents CyberArt, a
collaborative project by the Gemeentemuseum, the Hague Montessori Lyceum

and artist Martin Sjardijn.

The presentation of paintings, drawings and prints by pupils of the
Montessori Lyceum is related to a major exhibition of landscape
paintings by Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch, on at the Gemeentemuseum through
to 21 May. The secondary school pupils have taken his depiction of the
Dutch landscape as the starting-point for their own (often highly)
original work.

Computers in the same exhibition area give access to CyberArt, an
interactive 3D Multi-User environment on the Internet. Built by other
pupils of the Montessori Lyceum, this is a virtual museum displaying
preliminary studies and explanatory notes alongside the finished work
now on show in the Gemeentemuseum. The virtual museum also includes
examples of Weissenbruch's oil and watercolour paintings which the
pupils analysed and used as a source of inspiration, as well as work by
artist Martin Sjardijn. Visitors can access this virtual museum via the
computers in the exhibition area, but also of course via any other
Internet connection.

Directions for visiting the cyber conference of the project on the
Internet can be found at http://www.hml.nl/cyberart.
Opening between 3 - 5 pm (GMT +!)

Dr. J.L. Locher,
director
