Amsterdam doet homovlag in de ban

Stadsdeel Centrum van Amsterdam heeft de zogenaamde regenboogvlag, symbool
voor homo-emancipatie, verboden.
Horeca en andere winkels moeten de vlag definitief binnenhalen. Bij
weigering riskeren ze een dwangsom van 2500 euro. Daarmee verdwijnt de
kleurrijke regenboogdoek, dat nu nog het herkenningspunt is voor de vele
homotoeristen die de stad elk jaar aandoen.
Stadsdeelvoorzitter Anne Lize Van der Stoel, destijds initiatiefnemer voor
de bouw van het homomonument, ziet de vlag niet als vertoon van homotrots,
maar als ongewenste reclame. De kleurrijke vlag 'verstoort het uitzicht op
de stad' en 'tast het stadsgezicht aan', meent het stadsdeelbestuur.
Ook andere vlaggen zijn verboden. Zo werden eerder al de vlaggen van het dak
van hotel Krasnapolsky gehaald.
Siep de Haan van Gay Business Amsterdam vindt het cynisch dat de
regenboogvlaggen moeten verdwijnen terwijl het stadsdeel gigantische
reclames op steigerdoeken toestaat. Volgens het stadsdeel gaat het hierbij
om tijdelijke reclame, in tegenstelling tot de homovlag.
