This remix of images and sound explores the relationship between
technology, the body and female subjectivity-- asking: what does it mean to
be embodied in a high tech world? Placing this work on-line suggests that
communications technologies and bio-technologies are potent tools for
re-conceptualizing embodiment, including the ways in which we understand
presence.
Biography:
Ms. LaPorta has recently been an Artist-in-Resident at Ars Electronica's
FutureLab (Linz, Austria) where she produced her first Web specific video
installation titled TRACES. Ms.LaPorta's work is also included in the ALT-X
exhibition, "Being in Cyberspace," the United Nations'
Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, and the Women and
Performance On-Line Journal "Sexuality in Cyberspace."
And most recently, her work "Translate { } Expression" has been included in
Leonardo's Electronic Gallery (MIT press.)
